Rescheduling gorilla permits in Uganda means changing the dates when people were supposed to go see the gorillas. This is done if visitors need to go on a different day for some reason. Gorilla trekking happens in two national parks in Uganda: Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga National Park. Bwindi has 21 gorilla families that people can visit, while Mgahinga has only one family that is used to having humans around. It’s important that only a few people visit each gorilla family each day, usually a maximum of eight.
The Process of Rescheduling Gorilla Permits in Uganda
When visitors want to change the date of their gorilla trek, they need to talk to the tour operator they booked with. The tour operator will then talk to the Uganda Wildlife Authority reservation office to find a new date for the trek. The tour operator will ask the visitors when they’re available and then go to the reservation office to sort out the new date.
The tour operator has to give good reasons why the date needs to be changed. They have to fill out a form explaining why and attach any receipts they have. It’s important to do this in time, at least two weeks before the trek. This helps avoid problems like not being able to get permits for the new date because they’re limited to eight people per gorilla family per day.

Only eight people can visit a gorilla family each day. Because of this limit, permits can sell out quickly. If there’s no space available for the day you want, it’s best to reschedule. Tour operators can help find a new date with available permits.
Guest No-Shows
Sometimes, guests don’t show up for their gorilla trekking appointment. They might have different reasons for not coming. To still meet the gorillas, it’s necessary to reschedule the permits.
Emergencies
Emergencies like health issues or big problems in the world can happen. When they do, rescheduling gorilla permits becomes important. For example, during the COVID pandemic, many permits had to be rescheduled.
Missed Flights
If someone misses their flight, they might not make it for their gorilla trekking. This can happen if they had a late night or weren’t reminded properly about their travel plans. In this case, rescheduling the permit is necessary.
