The route will take you through the picturesque landscapes of Rwanda, known as the “country of a thousand hills,” as you head towards the Pearl of Africa, Uganda. We will cross over to Uganda at either Katuna or Chanika border post.
During the journey, we will make a stop at Kabale town (if crossing at Katuna) or Kisoro (if crossing at Chanika) to refresh before continuing to our destination, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive is approximately 4-5 hours, and along the way, you will be mesmerized by the stunning scenery.
In Bwindi, you will have the option to stay at either Broad Bill Forest Camp or Haven Lodge Rushaga for the night, where you can relax and prepare for the exciting gorilla trekking experience the next day.
After a hearty breakfast, we will head to the park headquarters for a comprehensive briefing about the gorilla trekking adventure. Our knowledgeable guide will provide you with important information and guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable encounter with the majestic mountain gorillas.
Based on your interests, fitness level, and age, your guide will work to arrange the allocation of a suitable gorilla family for your trek. Please communicate your preferences, and they will do their best to accommodate your request.
The gorilla trekking experience may vary in duration, taking anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, so it is essential to be prepared for both possibilities. The trek can be physically demanding, and a certain level of fitness is required, but the reward of encountering these gentle giants in their natural habitat is unparalleled.
Throughout the trek, your guide will provide valuable insights into the forest’s flora and fauna, pointing out various tree species, birds, and other wildlife that inhabit this rich ecosystem. Once we locate the designated gorilla family, we will spend a precious hour in their presence, quietly observing and photographing their daily activities.
After this awe-inspiring encounter, we will trek back to the park headquarters, where you will receive a certificate to commemorate your gorilla trekking achievement. Subsequently, we will drive back to Kigali, crossing the border at Katuna or Chanika, where you can either stay overnight in Kigali or catch your international departure flight.
