Buhoma Lodge is the best place to stay when you’re going gorilla trekking in the Buhoma Sector. It’s one of only two lodges inside Bwindi Forest, giving you an intimate experience with spectacular views of the forest. Bwindi is where you’ll find the rare Mountain Gorillas. Buhoma Lodge is close to where you’ll meet for gorilla tracking and other activities in the area.
The lodge has a cozy central area with a lounge, bar, and dining space. There are fireplaces to keep you warm in the evenings. Buhoma Sector was the first part of the park where gorillas got used to humans, which we call habituation, back in 1993. It’s a famous and popular part of the park, especially because it’s home to the oldest Gorilla family, Mubare, and three other families: Habinyanja, Rushegura, and Katwe.
Many tourists come to Buhoma Sector, even during the low season, because it’s where you’ll find the only two lodges inside the forest: Gorilla Sanctuary Forest Camp and Bwindi Lodge. This sector is where gorilla trekking started, so people trust they’ll see gorillas here more than in other parts. Plus, there are lots of gorilla families here, second only to Rushaga Sector, which means it’s easier to get a permit to see them.
Buhoma Sector also has many luxury accommodations compared to other parts of Bwindi, making it great for travelers who like a bit of luxury. That’s why permits and services often get sold out early here. To stay at Buhoma Lodge and go gorilla trekking in Buhoma Sector, you need to book your trek in advance. This sector is in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
When you plan to trek gorillas in Buhoma, it’s crucial to book your gorilla permits well in advance, ideally 3 to 4 months before your safari date. These permits tend to sell out quickly, especially during high season. Without a permit, you won’t be allowed to trek the mountain gorillas. The cost for permits varies: USD 800 for foreign non-residents, USD 700 for foreign residents, and 300,000 Uganda Shillings for East Africa Citizens. This permit grants you one hour to spend with the magnificent mountain gorillas in Bwindi.
Securing accommodation ahead of time is essential for your stay at Buhoma Lodge and gorilla trekking in Buhoma Sector. You’ll need to pay 50% of the package to secure your spot at Buhoma Lodge. This ensures that you have a comfortable and convenient place to stay during your adventure.
