Lake Mburo National Park is accessible throughout the year, as it is only 228 kilometers away from Kampala city. However, the best time to visit is during the dry season when wildlife sightings are optimal and the grass is shorter, improving visibility.
The dry season, which typically spans June, July, August, September, December, and January, attracts a larger number of tourists seeking the best wildlife experiences. It’s worth noting that while the park does not have visitor limitations, accommodations within the park are limited. If you plan to stay overnight, it is advisable to consider accommodations in Mbarara town.
Due to the high demand during the dry season, safari packages may be more expensive. This period coincides with Uganda’s tourism peak season, resulting in increased costs. On the other hand, the low season, which usually occurs from March to May and sometimes in November, offers discounted prices from service providers. This is because fewer people book safaris to Lake Mburo National Park during this time.
If you are on a limited budget, the low season presents an opportunity to visit Lake Mburo National Park at a more affordable rate. You may even have the chance to be upgraded to a higher-priced facility within your budget, depending on your bargaining skills and negotiation power.
To reach Lake Mburo National Park, located between Masaka and Mbarara, there are two main gates you can use.
