Arrival and Orientation
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, our friendly and knowledgeable tour guide will be there to greet you. Before the safari officially begins, we offer the option to arrange accommodation for you at an additional cost. This allows you to settle in and prepare for the exciting days ahead.
Day 1: Journey to Volcanoes National Park
Your safari kicks off with a city excursion around Kigali, Rwanda’s capital known as the ‘land of a thousand hills.’ This introductory tour offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Rwandan culture and history. Following the city exploration, we head north to Virunga National Park in Ruhengeri. Along the way, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the terraced hills that define Rwanda’s landscape. Our destination for the night is Volcanoes National Park, where you’ll stay at the cozy Home Inn.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure
Rise early for a thrilling day of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, we embark on a journey into the dense forest in search of these majestic creatures. The trek offers a unique opportunity to witness the wonders of the rainforest, from the calls of exotic birds to the footprints of elusive wildlife. After an exhilarating trek, return to Home Inn for lunch and well-deserved relaxation.
Day 3: Relaxation at Lake Kivu
Following breakfast, we depart for Lake Kivu, one of East Africa’s great lakes. Here, you’ll have the chance to unwind amidst stunning scenery and enjoy a peaceful canoe ride to the hot springs. Take in the breathtaking sunset views over the lake and observe local fishermen in their traditional boats. Your accommodation for the night is the serene View Palm Resort, where you can rest and rejuvenate.
Day 4: Journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, we set out for Nyungwe Forest National Park, renowned for its lush biodiversity and pristine landscapes. The journey offers scenic vistas of Lake Kivu, providing a perfect opportunity for sightseeing. Upon arrival at Nyungwe, settle in at the charming Gisakura Guest House, where you’ll enjoy lunch, dinner, and a comfortable overnight stay.
Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking or Canopy Walk
Start the day with a delicious breakfast before heading to Nyungwe Forest National Park headquarters. Here, you’ll receive a briefing before embarking on either a chimpanzee trekking expedition or a thrilling canopy walk. Whichever activity you choose, you’ll be immersed in the natural beauty of the forest, surrounded by diverse flora and fauna. Afterward, return to Gisakura Guest House for meals and relaxation.
Day 6: Return to Kigali via Butare National Museum
On the final day of your safari, enjoy breakfast before departing for Kigali. En route, we make a stop at Butare National Museum, where you can delve into Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage through fascinating exhibits and artifacts. Arrive in Kigali in the late afternoon, where you’ll be dropped off at the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your memorable journey with Iconic Africa Safaris.
