How to ensure Safety during Game Drives in Uganda
Game drives in Uganda are when people go out in vehicles to see animals in places like national parks. Uganda has many national parks where you can see lots of different animals like lions, elephants, and giraffes. The Uganda Wildlife Authority takes care of these parks and makes rules to keep people and animals safe when they go on game drives.
1. Going with a Guide
To be safe on a game drive, it’s best to go with a guide. Guides know a lot about the parks and where to find animals. They can also keep you safe if something goes wrong, like if you get too close to an animal. You can book a game drive with a tour company, and they’ll provide a guide. But if you want, you can also go with a ranger from the park.
2. Driving Safely
When you’re driving in the park, you have to go slow. It’s important to follow the speed limit, which is usually 40 kilometers per hour. Going slow helps you see the animals better, and it keeps everyone safe. If you drive too fast, you might hit an animal, and you’ll have to pay a fine.
3. Don’t Feed the Animals
Feeding animals is not allowed. Even though it might seem fun to give them food, it’s not good for them. Animals in the parks have plenty of food, so they don’t need our help. Feeding them can make them sick or change their behavior, which is not good for their health.
4. Keep the Park Clean
It’s important to keep the parks clean. That means you shouldn’t throw trash on the ground. There are special places to throw away your garbage. Littering can hurt animals, especially if they eat plastic or get tangled in trash.
5. Stay on the Roads
When you’re on a game drive, you have to stay on the roads. There are special tracks for driving, and you should stick to them. Going off the tracks can be dangerous because you might get lost, and it’s not good for the plants and animals.
6. No Honking at Animals
You shouldn’t honk your horn at animals. It can scare them and make them run away. Animals should be free to move around without being bothered by loud noises.
7. Drive During the Day
Game drives happen during the day, from 7 in the morning to 7 at night. After that, it’s too dark, and it’s not safe to drive. Some parks might let you drive at night, but only if they say it’s okay.
8. Keep Your Receipt
When you pay to enter the park, you’ll get a receipt. It’s important to keep that receipt because you might need to show it to park officials. They want to make sure everyone who comes into the park has paid.
9. Use Designated Campfire Areas
If you want tohave a campfire, you have to do it in the right place. Parks have special areas for campfires, and you should use them. Campfires can be dangerous if they get out of control, so it’s important to be careful.
10. Dress Properly
Wear comfortable clothes when you go on a game drive. You should also wear neutral colors so you don’t stand out too much. Bring things like sunscreen, hats, and water to stay safe and comfortable during your drive.
