Iconic Africa Safaris Ltd invites you to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, where you can immerse yourself in the wild, encounter these remarkable creatures up close, and capture their essence through your lens. This comprehensive adventure not only offers the chance to photograph mountain gorillas and chimpanzees but also presents numerous opportunities to document the rich tapestry of African wildlife across various ecosystems in Uganda.
Gorilla & Chimpanzee Photography Adventures in Uganda and Rwanda promises a thrilling and unforgettable encounter with some of the world’s most iconic primates. Here, we will delve into the heart of the African wilderness, pursuing the elusive mountain gorillas and the charismatic chimpanzees. These experiences are marked by close observation, profound moments of connection with our closest relatives in the animal kingdom, and the incredible privilege of photographing them in their natural environments.
While the main attractions are the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees, the safari also offers opportunities to capture a diverse array of wildlife and bird species in different habitats across Uganda. Our journey includes visits to two remarkable destinations: Kibale Forest National Park, known for its vibrant chimpanzee populations, and either Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, both renowned for their populations of endangered mountain gorillas.
Gorilla trekking is undoubtedly the pinnacle of this safari experience. To photograph the endangered mountain gorillas up close, you must be prepared for a moderate physical challenge. The trekking paths can vary from relatively flat terrain to rugged, hilly jungle landscapes. Depending on the location and gorilla group, treks can range from 2 to 6 hours in duration. However, the physical effort is richly rewarded when you encounter a gorilla family and have the opportunity to capture their majestic presence.
As you trek through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Volcanoes National Park, you have to maintain a respectful distance from the gorillas and do not use flash photography to minimize disturbance. Yet, the inquisitive nature of these magnificent creatures often leads them to approach our group, providing extraordinary photographic opportunities. Rest assured that you will be trekking exclusively with our knowledgeable guides from Iconic Africa Safaris Ltd, ensuring you make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
In Kibale Forest National Park, our adventure continues as we immerse ourselves in the world of chimpanzees and other wildlife. This lush tropical rainforest is a haven for primates, offering exceptional opportunities to photograph not only chimpanzees but also rare species like the red colobus and L’Hoest’s monkeys. The forest is also home to an astonishing variety of bird species, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. Our explorations in Kibale Forest involve hiking along a network of shady forest trails, where you will have ample chances to capture the diverse wildlife and birdlife that call this pristine habitat home. The dense canopy and vibrant undergrowth provide the perfect backdrop for your wildlife photography adventures.
To make the most of your Gorilla & Chimpanzee photography safari, Aspire Africa Safaris recommends the following equipment:
It’s essential to note that flash photography is prohibited when photographing gorillas to minimize disturbance. Flash must be switched off entirely during these encounters. Additionally, tripods and monopods are not allowed during gorilla treks to prevent any potential distress to the gorillas, who may associate them with poachers’ tools.
