To participate in gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park during the high season, it is essential that you are at least 15 years old or older. Volcanoes National Park is located in the northwestern part of the country and is the designated area for this incredible experience. To gain entry and interact with these magnificent creatures, you must obtain a gorilla permit, which serves as your ticket.
The high season for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is during the months of June, July, August, September, December, and January. During this period, the demand for permits is particularly high. Currently, there are 12 gorilla families available for public booking, and the Rwanda Development Board issues a total of 96 gorilla trekking permits each day. To ensure the safety and well-being of the gorillas, only a maximum of 8 tourists are allowed to visit each gorilla family.
The sale and regulation of gorilla permits for all gorilla trekking adventures in Rwanda are handled by the Rwanda Development Board. Once you have obtained your gorilla permit, it is important to note that it is a physical document that you will need to present on the briefing day. This document will assist in allocating you to a specific gorilla family after the briefing. The allocation process does not follow a specific format and is determined based on various factors.
